Steve McQueen FIM licence sells for £26,670

Bike-mad McQueen fan shells out over 25 grand for racing document

McQueen...still attracting big figures 30 years after his death

THE FIM racing motorcycle licence of the late Hollywood King of Cool, Steve McQueen, fetched a whopping £26,670 (42,700USD) at Bonhams & Butterfields motorcycle auction, California, earlier this month.

The licence, which is dated 1964 and permits the motorcycle-mad star to race in trials and motocross events, was one of the star attractions at the world famous auctioneer's sale.

The document, pictured above, is signed by McQueen as well as featuring a black and white photo of the man himself.

Bizarrely, an ex-Steve McQueen 1929 Harley-Davidson 45ci DL only fetched £24,910 (39,780USD) - almost £2000 less than McQueen's paper licence.
