Moto2 race winner Dominique Aegerter reveals he is volunteering at a local nursing home to help in the fight against COVID-19

If there is anything good to take away from the coronavirus pandemic, it is surely the spirit of community coming out in people from all walks of life whether they’re our absolutely fabulous medical workforces, our humble neighbours or even if they race motorcycles for a living.

Indeed, everyone (we hope) is doing their bit to ensure we come out of this strong again but are some that are going above and beyond to give back to those in need.

One such person is Dominique Aegerter, a veteran Moto2 racer with one win and six podiums to his name, who has been volunteering at a local nursing home owned by his personal trainer every day to sterilise it.

Though we doff our helmets to all professional riders currently urging people adhere to the Stay At Home messages and keep us entertained on social media, we applaud Aegerter – and of course EVERYONE putting themselves in harm’s way to fight the virus – for his actions.

Writing on Instagram alongside a video he posted, he wrote:

“Every year I come to Spain to do my physical preparation with @coachtotop. When @motogp season was cancelled for the CORONAVIRUS, I decided to stay here to train online at home.

“Pol my coach also has a nursing home, and I offered to help him in any way I could. I said, "You always help me, now I have to help you." Every week, I buy bleach for them and disinfect the whole exterior.

“I train at home every morning and in the afternoons I collaborate in the prevention and disinfection of his nursing home.

“This virus is lethal for older people. And I couldn't be home locked up watching all the trouble.

“C.G. Sant Pere is the name of the nursing home, and they are one of the few nursing homes that have 0 CORONAVIRUS cases, so I am proud to help in this cause!

“I encourage everyone to help where possible, because together we will beat this virus!”
