Top road racer Michael Dunlop has suffered a suspected pelvis fracture after crashing heavily during the Southern 100.

The 19-time Isle of Man TT winner was back on the island for this year’s Southern 100 event when he high-sided from his Tyco BMW S1000RR at Castletown Bridge on the second lap of the Senior race.

At the time he had been chasing down Dean Harrison in the fight for victory in the blue riband race but came down 

Admitted to Nobles Hospital, reports suggest he has suffered a minor fracture to his pelvis but has now been discharged. 

Ruling him out of the remainder of the Southern 100 to end his Solo Championship bid, Dunlop – who has endured a season hampered by injury - is now a question mark over whether he will recover in time for next month’s Ulster Grand Prix. 

The 30-year-old suffered shoulder and wrist injuries at the Donegal International Rally, ailments that continued to affect him during his 2019 Isle of Man TT bid.

He had earlier been second in the Senior race, finishing 10 seconds down on Harrison aboard his Kawasaki.

It’s also the latest blow to Tyco BMW, which saw both of its British Superbike Championship riders Christian Iddon and Keith Farmer suffer leg fractures in separate incidents at the most recent Knockhill BSB event.

Following on from his breakthrough Isle of Man TT campaign, Harrison swept to all six victories in the Southern 100 to dominate the Solo Championship. He becomes the third most successful rider in the Southern 100’s history, with his sextet of wins bringing his career tally up to 23 in total.
