Former TT racer jailed for child sex offences

Mick Moreton found guilty of sex crimes committed 30 years ago

A FORMER Isle of Man TT racer has been jailed for six-and-a-half years for a string of sex offences committed more than three decades ago.

Michael Moreton, 58, appeared in Worcester Crown Court this week, charged with the abuse of a young girl over a seven-year period.

Moreton, of Windermere Way, Burlish Park, Stourport, pleaded guilty to 11 offences of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child.

His victim, now aged 44, submitted a harrowing impact statement read to the court, describing how her ordeal had changed her life forever.

Moreton confessed to the charges at an early stage in the investigation to avoid the victim having to give evidence. As part of his defence, Moreton also submitted references from fellow racers and work colleagues.

Sentencing, Judge Amjad Nawaz said persistent offences had been committed against a child which must result in a custodial sentence. He told Moreton he must complete a sex offenders programme whilst in prison and sign on the sex offenders register for life.

Moreton must serve at least two-thirds of the prison term.
