Furygan has lifted the covers on its latest collaboration with D3O, the new Spectre range of rider armour. Designed specifically for shoulders, elbows and knees, the Spectre series aims to deliver maximum protection while remaining so comfortable that riders barely notice it’s there.

The armour has been developed by Furygan’s in-house MotionLAB alongside D3O’s material scientists, who are best known for their impact-absorbing polymers. The result, according to both brands, is a piece of kit that bends, breathes and shapes to the body, but stiffens instantly under impact.

Certified at Level 2, the highest rating under EN1621-1, the Spectre range goes beyond the minimum standards expected of rider protection. In practical terms, that means motorcyclists can expect armour that not only meets the benchmark, but outperforms it.

At the core of the development is D3O’s material science, built on more than 30 proprietary formulations. Combined with MotionLAB’s focus on rider ergonomics, the partnership has created a protector that manages to balance flexibility with serious crash performance. The companies say the armour performs at the highest level without the common trade-off in comfort.

Earlier this week, UK press were invited to D3O’s headquarters in Croydon for a first look at the technology. Journalists were given the chance to handle the Spectre protectors themselves, and witnessed demonstrations showing how the material reacts on impact.

The range is available in two main options. The Jacket Pack Spectre D3O L2 comes in at £49.99 RRP, while the Elbows/Knees Spectre D3O L2 will set you back £34.99 RRP. Both can be retrofitted to any Furygan jacket, making them an easy upgrade for riders looking to boost their safety without sacrificing comfort.

Furygan and D3O’s message is clear, armour doesn’t have to be bulky, sweaty or restrictive. With Spectre, they’re hoping to show that protection can be light, breathable and barely noticeable, right up until the moment you need it most.
