A tidy Harley-Davidson Fat Boy that was owned from new by the Heavyweight boxing legend, George Foreman, has been sold for not very much on the ‘Bring a Trailer’ website.

The bike was bought new by the two-time heavyweight champion of the world in 1992, and must have been a cherished part of his collection, as he held on to it for just over 20 years. As is the way with Harleys of this type, Big George didn’t leave the bike as stock, meaning it wears several additions that were hand-picked by the Olympic gold medalist.

One of the first changes was the colour, with Carlini Autographics applying the custom two-tone red with custom gold pinstripes paint scheme at some point in 1993. Other additions to the model include the two-into-two, megaphone exhausts - which are likely thunderous - as well as the leather saddle bags and Hamburger motif on the dual seat. The latter addition is possibly a nod to Foreman’s post-boxing career as a purveyor of electric grills.

Power for the Fat Boy comes from an 82ci (1,343cc) Evolution V-twin engine, fed by Keihin carbs, and delivered to the rear wheel via a five-speed gearbox and belt drive - all of which is typical of a model of that era.

Foreman famously loved cars and motorcycles, and had a large collection, so it’s not surprising that this motorcycle doesn’t have excessive mileage - just 2,499 on the clock. That’s just a little over 75 miles a year. But it’s a good bet that it was stored with love and care.

Surprisingly, for a bike with such close and long ties to one of the world’s most famous sportsmen, the bike didn’t sell for much over the average price. The winning bid on the auction was just $6,200 (around £4,500 at today's exchange rate), which, for a bike which seems to have been so personal to Big George, doesn’t seem like much at all!

The listing page for the now-finished auction can still be viewed on the Bring a Trailer website.
