Casey Stoner will ride a race bike at the Australian MotoGP

Casey Stoner is set for a return to the MotoGP paddock at his beloved Phillip Island circuit, as he’s been chosen to lead the Homecoming Ride.

Stoner will be joined on Thursday, October 16, by hundreds of motorcyclists as part of a ride that will cross over the San Remo Bridge in Newhaven, Victoria, before ending at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

When the Stoner-led convoy arrives, riders will all complete two laps of the circuit with him, which is sure to be a dream come true for many racing fans, not least his own dedicated supporters.

Additionally, Stoner will ride on-track with a race bike, which will be the first time he’s ridden that type of machinery at Phillip Island since 2012. He won the Australian Grand Prix on that occasion with Honda, and for this appearance, his on-track appearances will take place on both Saturday and Sunday.

“Phillip Island has given me some of my greatest career moments, so to return by leading the Homecoming Ride and be recognised with a Lap of Honour is very special,” said Stoner.

“It’s a great chance to celebrate and thank the fans whose passion, energy and loyalty throughout my career is something I’ll always cherish.”

Stoner’s new ambassadorial role is part of an agreement with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

Stoner’s record at his home track is one that very few riders have ever replicated at their home race, never mind any circuit. Stoner won the Australian GP every year from 2007 to 2012, which included wins with Ducati and Honda.
