Brembo has officially launched its first 100 per cent recycled aluminium brake caliper, which was part of a project that began five years ago.

The project was set out in 2020 with a view to making Brembo more sustainable. To make that possible, the company has cut lifecycle emissions down by 70 per cent compared to conventional systems.

A global leader when it comes to braking systems used by racing teams in championships such as MotoGP and WorldSBK, and on many road bikes, Brembo’s new recycled aluminium calipers underwent a comprehensive redesign.

Brembo says the system has been developed for one of its major partners, although it has not confirmed which customer that is. However, it has confirmed that the supply of the new caliper has begun across “all markets”.

The Italian company says it has retained the same style as before and that calipers using the recycled material will include a new ALU trademark logo to distinguish them as upcycled aluminium.

Brembo will continue to use conventional aluminium calipers until the end of their product life, which includes any units currently in production. Then, it will begin prioritising its new renewable energy products which will all be developed with recycled material as standard.

Daniele Schillaci, CEO of Brembo, said this about the completion of the new brake caliper project.

“The adoption of recycled aluminium in the production of our iconic brake calipers embodies our ongoing commitment to innovation for sustainability. This solution is designed to meet the highest standards of performance and environmental responsibility. Brembo's journey is one of continuous improvement, unwavering commitment and this innovation we're bringing to the market represents our contribution to building a future where our new products are smarter, safer and more sustainable than the one before”.
