This French sidecar rig looks ready for anything
A French sidecar manufacturer is keen to put its latest ‘tout-terrain’ sidecar rig to the test.

Do you have a friend whose spine you’d like to break? We’ve got the perfect contraption for you: this ‘tout-terrain’ sidecar rig driven by a BMW F 900 GS.
The idea comes to us from French sidecar outfit DJ Side Cars. Owners Camille Puthod and Vincent Chagot say they’ve been working on the idea for about three years.

The main goal, they say, was to offer a fully capable sidecar that's as light as possible without losing rigidity. The DJ Side Cars team plans to put this beast to the test soon in Morocco.
Puthod and Chagot say they intend to take two versions of the rig to the North African country.

Keeping things light, the bulk of the sidecar is made of aluminium, with a declared curb weight of 80 kg. And you don’t have to torture carry a passenger if you don’t want to. The sidecar features an interior ‘basket’ that can be adapted to carry loads, or accommodate a dog carrier.
The rig also boasts an additional 12-liter fuel tank, giving the vehicle additional range in the faraway places that it is ostensibly intended to explore. Related to that, DJ Side Cars has included a front winch and a spare wheel, both integrated into the sidecar's bodywork.

DJ Side Cars refers to this as a prototype, but hopes to offer up similar models for as little as €15,000 (roughly £13,000 at current exchange rates). That strikes us as surprisingly affordable.
