Adur and Worthing Council has introduced motorcycle parking charges that begin today. That now means you could be paying up to £7.20 to park in one of the region's designated car parks.

Before today, motorcycles could use the council's own car parks for free, as long as they weren’t parked in a bay that was specified for a particular road user or vehicle. From today onwards, if you’re visiting the seaside towns of Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham-by-Sea, and Southwick, and you use a council-run car park, you’ll be paying between £5.40 and £7.20 per day to park your bike.

The move has been introduced to help maintain and pay for the upkeep of the region’s carparks, with the council saying: “Last year, we spent more than £140,000 monitoring, maintaining and improving our off-street car parks across Adur for users, but motorcyclists did not help fund that work at all.”

Riders have two options for ticket purchase, either from a pay-and-display machine (good luck keeping that ticket on your screen!) or via an app-based system. The council also claims that all signage relating to motorcycle parking charges is easy to read and viewable from the motorcycle parking bays.
