Teen E-Motorbike Rider Arrested After Hour-Long Chase
A teenager has been arrested after leading police on an hour-long chase in Blackpool
A 17-year-old has been arrested for driving dangerously after he led police in Blackpool on a chase that lasted over an hour while riding an electric motorcycle.
Initially the teenager managed to escape as police attempted to catch him with officers both on the ground and in the air. However, the boy, who was wearing nothing more than a balaclava over his head and casual clothing, refused to stop for officers at about 13:28 on 9 February shortly before he was caught.
Several police cars and a helicopter pursued the 17-year-old boy for an hour as he tore through a park filled with children and dog walkers.
After he was finally caught lying in the middle of the road by the police, the teenager was referred to Blackpool's Youth Offending Team for 12 months, while he was also banned from driving for at least 12 months and until he passes an extended driving test. His e-motorbike was confiscated after he was caught.
The police unit said this on social media: "Not only did the rider cut across tramlines and paths, football pitches full of children and Stanley Park on a busy Sunday afternoon, but he rode extremely dangerously, putting other road users, pedestrians and himself at great risk.
"We have had fatal collisions and serious injuries throughout the county, caused by e-bikes and e-scooters. We know that the public want to see more done to tackle antisocial driving.
"We understand your concerns and are listening. We will continue to target anyone intent on this type of criminality on Lancashire's roads."
