Jonathan Rea landed his third pole position of the 2022 WorldSBK Championship season with a record-breaking lap around the Most Autodrom, the Ulsterman comfortably clear of title rivals Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alvaro Bautista.

A circuit on which he crashed twice during the series’ inaugural visit to the Czech venue last year, Rea put that all behind him with an excellent charge on his last effort to stop the clock at 1m 30.947s.

It was enough to upset defending champion Toprak Razgatlioglu, the triple Donington Park race winner having come into Superpole looking like the man to beat following free practice.

Despite losing three tenths to Rea on the timesheets, Razgatlioglu remains poised on the front row in second position, where he will also be joined by Michael Ruben Rinaldi, who produced his best qualifying performance of the year in third.

His effort was enough to nudge series leader Alvaro Bautista onto the second row in fourth position, the Spaniard - who comes to Most with a 17 point margin over Rea in the standings - certainly on the back foot relative to his title rivals over a single lap at least.

Alex Lowes gets underway from fifth place, while Garrett Gerloff enjoyed a step forward in pace to get a place on the back of the second row in sixth position.

Top BMW rider Scott Redding heads up row three in seventh, the British rider joined alongside by the second factory Yamaha of Andrea Locatelli in eighth and Motocorsa Ducati’s Axel Bassani in ninth. Puccetti Kawasaki’s Lucas Mahias completes the top ten.

Elsewhere, Honda have work to do coming into the first of the weekend’s three races this afternoon with Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge down the order in 12th and 13th respectively, while ‘BSB visitors’ Peter Hickman and Ryan Vickers get underway from 21st and 24th.
