Danny Buchan has signed for the DAO Racing Kawasaki team for the 2024 British Superbike Championship.

The recognisable #83 will make his way across to the DAO Racing team for next season’s BSB series, as he makes his return to Kawasaki, a brand with which Buchan has had much success.

That success includes Buchan’s first BSB Superbike-class victory at Knockhill in 2019, as well as National Superstock 1000 titles in 2014 and 2017.

More recently, Buchan has raced for the Synetiq BMW team and, on occasion, found similar, race-winning pace to that which he was able to display in his earlier Kawasaki years. However, there have also been difficult periods for Buchan with the S1000RR and more recently with the M1000RR. These difficult patches have characterised Buchan’s 2023 season, which has been plagued with both inconsistency and injury.

On his move to DAO Racing, Danny Buchan said: “First of all, I want to thank Clarissa, Sommai and Jonny for putting this together. It’s no secret that 2023 has been a disaster, but DAO Racing can see potential in me, which is massive! The team has clear ambitions to become regular podium finishers and race winners, and that’s always the goal of a racer.

“I feel very proud to be part of this project and obviously excited to be jumping back on a bike I’ve got good memories with. The Kawasaki ZX-10RR is in good form currently in BSB, so with a winter’s test plan and lots of laps, I’m hoping we can get right to it and have a good first season together. Thank you to my supporters, sponsors and everyone who has stayed so positive around me this season. Roll on 2024!”

Buchan’s move to DAO comes as the Manx team switches its primary focus. With Dean Harrison, DAO Racing has been one of the most prominent road racing teams in recent years, but in 2024 it will switch its focus to the short circuits and British Superbikes. The announcement of Buchan’s signing follows the previous announcement that Harrison would be leaving the team, as he looks for a berth elsewhere for the 2024 road racing season.

Ross Burridge, Head of Marketing & Racing Department at Kawasaki UK, said: “Danny has been part of the Team Green family for many years now, and it’s great to have him back on board for next season! Although it’s clearly been a tough 2023 for him, we know he has the talent to run at the front of the Superbike class, and now he has joined this extremely experienced team with a good crew around him, we’re confident he will hit the ground running in 2024.”
