BSB Silverstone Race 2 Results | Mackenzie, O'Halloran bounce back for 1-2

After crashing out of a certain 1-2 result in Race 1, Tarran Mackenzie and Jason O'Halloran forget the bruises to mount a late charge for glory in Race 2

Tarran Mackenzie - McAMS Yamaha

Tarran Mackenzie put his hand injury aside to complete British Superbike Championship (BSB) victory in Race 2 at Silverstone, followed by team-mate Jason O’Halloran.

In what has been a dramatic 24 hours for the McAMS Yamaha rider, the Scot was heading for victory in race one on Saturday when he got out of shape overtaking O’Halloran with two laps remaining, with the subsequent high-side taking the team-mates out.

After several assessments and confirmation of a broken bone in his hand, Mackenzie was cleared to race this afternoon and duly made the most of the opportunity with a hard fought win that looked unlikely with 10 laps remaining.

Indeed, both he and O’Halloran played it safe early on as they ran at the lower half of the top ten, with the pace instead taken up by Josh Brookes, the defending champion enjoying easily his best performance of the season as he confidently took the lead on lap three and stretched the pack.

However, Mackenzie, followed by O’Halloran, would work their way back into contention in the final laps, meticulously picking off their rivals before planting a solid pass on Brookes at Turn 1 on the final lap.

O’Halloran followed suit at Brooklands to give McAMS Yamaha the 1-2 they were robbed of on Saturday.

Despite the late demotion, Brookes’ third place marks his first podium of the year and means he is on the cusp of securing one of the eight Title Showdown spots having come into the weekend as an outsider.

However, with Bradley Ray - currently holding eighth overall - finishing fourth, there is five points between them, while Danny Buchan in seventh has only three points in hand over his fellow BMW rider.

Tommy Bridewell rounded out the top five from pole sitter Gino Rea, ahead of Christian Iddon, who was lucky to survive a huge moment on the VisionTrack Ducati mid-way through the race that sent him across the grass.

Ryan Vickers, Rory Skinner and Peter Hickman completed the top ten.
