BSB Silverstone GP Race 3 Results | McAMS 1-2, Buchan and Brookes into Showdown

Danny Buchan and Josh Brookes fend off Bradley Ray to book their places in the eight-way BSB Title Showdown as McAMS Yamaha dominate again

Jason O’Halloran capped off a supreme first phase of the 2021 British Superbike Championship (BSB) by snapping up more precious podium credits with his 11th win of the season at Silverstone.

In the final race before the all-important TItle Showdown gets underway, the three remaining spots in the eight-way shootout would go the way of Glenn Irwin, Danny Buchan and Josh Brookes, the reigning champion sneaking in at the expense of an unlucky Bradley Ray.

In a race of two halves after a red flag period to clear an oil spill, it was O’Halloran and McAMS Yamaha team-mate Tarran Mackenzie that once again established their current sizeable advantage over the opposition to work their way to the front before pulling away.

Mackenzie looked on course to make it a second win of the day but a pass by O’Halloran with three laps to go would then see him hold on to the flag.

Their wins come a day after a heavy collision involving the pair left Mackenzie with a broken hand and both battered and bruised.

Regardless, they head into the final three events (nine races) as the riders to beat, though O’Halloran starts with a comfortable lead of 30 points over Mackenzie once podium credits are taken into account. This is reduced from the 101 point margin he had before the race.

With O’Halloran and Mackenzie out front, the race was on to see who would be joining the pair - together with the already confirmed Christian Iddon, Tommy Bridewell and Peter Hickman - in the showdown.

With only six points splitting Buchan, Ray and Brookes, the stage was set with all three producing a determined push towards the goal of making the two available spots. Brookes ran at the front of both races, clinging onto third at the finish which together with Buchan in fourth meant they would be the riders to go through into the Showdown.

Bridewell and Iddon followed in fifth and sixth, with a disappointed Ray - who ran third in the first start - left out from the Showdown with his seventh place finish.

Lee Jackson, Glenn Irwin and Ryan Vickers completed the top ten.
