Leading National Superstock 1000 contender Alex Olsen is set to make the full-time move into the British Superbike Championship class from this weekend at Oulton Park after joining Smiths BMW.
A familiar figure in the BSB paddock following a stints in both the Superstock 600 and 1000 classes, Olsen has been enjoying his strongest season yet in the latter, notching up a maiden win at Silverstone at the start of the year.
Running fourth overall after seven rounds on the Team IMR BMW, Olsen ahead of round eight at Cadwell Park confirmed on Instagram he’d be parting ways with the team.
Instead he is set to see out the season with Smiths Racing, beginning with the next event. Olsen has appeared with the team already this year, riding the BMW at Cadwell Park for a pre-event single day test session but did not race. He turned in the 17th quickest time, just over a second slower than new team-mate Peter Hickman.
Olsen joins Smiths Racing at the expense of James Ellison, who exited following the Thruxton round, citing difficulties gelling with the BMW S1000RR
