A new Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle Stage III kit can offer close to 15 per cent more horsepower than the Original Equipment CVO engine configuration.

Harley-Davidson has revealed a new street-legal performance kit that will bump up power and torque figures on some of its top-of-the-range touring models.

The new Screamin' Eagle Stage III kit is designed for the American company’s CVO range. Currently, Harley-Davidson has four CVO models that sit within its ‘Grand American Touring’ line-up, which are the CVO Street Glide ST, Road Glide ST, Street Glide and Street Glide Limited.

All four models make use of the brand’s Milwaukee-Eight 121 engine, but the new kit now offers an increase to 125ci. In real money, 121ci (cubic inch) means all four models have a displacement of 1,977cc, however, the new kit takes that number north of 2,000cc. To be exact, the CVO models have been bumped up to 2,048cc, although power increases vary slightly across the different models.

Harley-Davidson says that the new kit delivers up to 15 per cent more horsepower, which converts to around 15bhp. It also generates an increase of 17 per cent more torque “compared to the Original Equipment CVO engine configuration”. But when it comes to ST models, those numbers are not quite as high, with power increased by five per cent and torque by four per cent.

In terms of the bump in power and torque, the non-ST Street Glide will go from delivering 113bhp to around 133bhp. The Street Glide and Road Glide ST will see their power figures of 124bhp go up to around 130bhp.

With this new kit fitted, the engine does away with its Original Equipment Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system.

Harley-Davidson says “this Stage III kit has been developed to deliver the kind of real-world power increase Touring riders will feel each time they roll on the throttle. The bump up in displacement and compression paired with a Screamin’ Eagle SE8-511 camshaft delivers a significant increase in torque and power over stock.”

The new Screamin' Eagle Stage III kit is not cheap, though, as it will cost people in the UK £2.066.
