Zontes ZT125-M: 125cc scooter from China with competitive performance

Zontes has launched its new ZT125-M 125cc scooter, with 14 horsepower, from an SOHC, water-cooled eighth-of-a-litre unit.

Zontes, the Chinese manufacturer of small-to-mid-capacity powered two-wheelers, has announced a new scooter, the 125M.

The scooter has been launched in France, but in the UK it has a different name, the ZT125-M, although the specifications are mostly identical.

If you scroll far enough down the Zontes ZT125-M’s product page on the Zontes UK website, you will find it has 32.8 horsepower. This is monumental power for a 125cc, and would mean over 260 horsepower per litre. It is also untrue, and the statistic entered in the scooter’s specs table is more realistic at 10.7kW, or 14.3 horsepower.

The maximum torque output is unconfirmed, which is slightly odd, as is the compression ratio of the engine and its bore and stroke measurements. But, we know it is a single-cylinder, water-cooled 125cc unit with an SOHC layout.

In total, with a full tank, the ZT125-M weighs in at 166kg. Incidentally, the fuel tank has a capacity of 12 litres, and since the fuel consumption statistic is quoted at 2.6 litres per 100km we can calculate a maximum range of 461.5km, or 286.8 miles. The bike also comes with an automatic transmission.

As for the chassis, there is dual-channel ABS from Bosch - who also provide the EFI - as well as disc brakes of unspecified diameters front and rear, and a tubular steel frame.

With a seat height of 760mm, the ZT125-M is also relatively accessible from that perspective, and in terms of pricing Zontes is asking for £3,649.
