Zapp e-scooter claims 0-30 in under 2.4secs

UK based scooter manufacturer Zapp claim their new 14kW scooter can accelerate from 0-30mph in under three seconds

UK BASED scooter manufacturer Zapp has unveiled a new 14kW scooter that can reportedly accelerate from nought to thirty in under three seconds.

The futuristically-styled, all-electric i300 is powered by lightweight lithium-ion batteries and an air-cooled, interior permanent magnet electric motor. The i300’s 14kW motor produces a whopping 587Nm of instant torque at the rear wheel, which, combined with a low mass of just 90kg, gives a claimed a 0-30mph time of less than 2.4 seconds. To put that into perspective, the Zapp i300 has nearly six times more torque than a Honda Fireblade. From a scooter!

Zapp’s answer to the critics, who argue that a lack of useable range and low number of charging points across the country hamper real world use, is to fit the i300 with removable, laptop sized batteries that can be charged while the bike is not in use or swapped out for fresh units, solving the problem of not being able to find a socket near where you parked.

The i300 includes riding modes that feature regenerative braking to help keep the wheels turning (this works by taking the drag from the motor when you coast and turning it into electrical energy that charges the battery) and even has nitrogen filled tyres as it’s more stable than air.

Zapp’s Chief Executive Swin Chatsuwan said: “There are already electric scooters out there, so we only ever intended to bring something highly innovative and hugely desirable to the market. There is nothing like the Zapp i300, either from a design or functionality and practicality perspective. We are very proud of what we have created and think commuters will like it as well.”
