New Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak unveiled

Ducati's newest Multistrada unveiled in Milan

The new Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak has just debuted in Milan.

The latest and sportiest addition to the Multistrada family is powered by the Ducati Testastretta DVT engine and stopped by a set of Brembo M50 4-piston radial calipers.

Bump absorption duties are handled by an Öhlins fork and adjustable TTX36 shock

The Pikes Peak Multi’ comes with a Termignoni Ducati Performance exhaust.

Other nice bits that make it stand out are the carbon-fibre screen (in addition to the standard one), a carbon front mudguard, carbon front fuel tank cover and carbon lateral front partitions.

The Pikes Peak is full of tech as well, such as a Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit, cornering ABS, electronic cruise control, power modes plus traction and wheelie control.

Here's what Ducat said about the new model in a press release:

'The Pikes Peak version really brings out the sports character of the Multistrada 1200 S. New from Ducati for 2016, the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak draws its inspiration from the legendary uphill American race.

'The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, also known as the "The Race to the Clouds", is held in an area of the Rocky Mountains some 16 km west of Colorado Springs. A distance of 20 kilometres separates the starting line, at an altitude of 2,862 metres, from the finishing line at 4,300 m. It's an incredibly tough competition: Ducati has already won it four times.

'Developed on the technical foundations of the Multistrada 1200 S, the Pikes Peak version has a new race-inspired colour scheme, just the first of several new features on this Ducati. The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak is in dedicated white red and black livery with Ducati red chassis, while the 3-spoke black wheels have a racing-inspired red trim.

'In addition to the as-standard silencer and nose fairing, a carbon Ducati Performance silencer by Termignoni (EU type-approved) and a low racing-type carbon screen are also available for the Pikes Peak version. Further carbon fibre components include the front mudguard, front tank cover and lateral front partitions, while the red-stitched seat has been specially designed to bring out this Multistrada's racing spirit.

'Underscoring the sporting character of the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak are the O¨hlins fork and O¨hlins TTX36 shock absorber, both mechanically adjustable.

'The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak is powered by the Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) twin-cylinder engine with cutting-edge technology that makes it the segment benchmark. On the timing front, double variable cam phasing acts independently on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. This optimises engine performance throughout the rev range, whatever the riding conditions. It also simultaneously ensures maximum power at high revs, smooth power delivery, good torque at low RPM and contained fuel consumption, all in full compliance with new Euro 4 standards.

'The Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak is equipped as standard with the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), developed by Bosch, which dynamically measures pitch and roll angles and acceleration along the 3 axes, raising performance and safety standards even further. Equipped with Cornering ABS, Cornering Lights (DCL) on the full-LED headlight, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Cruise Control, the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak is a concentrate of technology that also features, as standard, a Bluetooth module; the latter, via the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), lets riders connect the bike to a smartphone and manage key multimedia functions (incoming calls, text messaging, music) via the switchgears and display information on the TFT dashboard.

'Like other bikes in the family, the Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak can mount one or more Ducati Performance accessory packages. Also available - in addition to individual items - are the Touring Pack (which includes heated grips, panniers and centre stand), the Urban Pack (with top case, tank bag with tank lock and USB hub to charge electronic devices), the Enduro Pack (consisting of supplementary LED lights and Ducati Performance components by Touratech: engine crash bars, radiator crash bars, sump guard, a broader kickstand base and off-road footpegs).'
