New limited edition Kawasaki ZZR1400

Takes our breath away - and reminds us of Top Gun

KAWASAKI has unveiled this special edition ZZR1400, with a paint scheme reminiscent of the GPZ900R's of the 1980s.

The 2015 model marks the 30th anniversary of the Ninja brand and shares the 'firecracker red' and 'metallic greystone' colours of the 1984 900R.

It's the third 30th anniversary Ninja model to be unveiled, after special editions of the ZX-10R and ZX-6R.

While those bore a slightly flashier take on the traditional green/white Kawasaki theme, this is the first to hark back to an early Ninja, as ridden by Tom Cruise in the film Top Gun.

It's actually a US anniversary – in the UK we didn't get a 'Ninja' branded bike until much later than 1984 – but the ZX-6R and ZX-10R specials are coming to the UK, so there seems a fair chance this ZZR1400 will too.

Failing that, you'll have to go to the States and grab one of the production run of 300 announced there. It costs $300 (£175) more than the base model, which would make it £11,874 over here.

Visordown quick fact: Ninja Turtles are also marking their 30th anniversary. Coincidence?
