LiveWire starts production of S4 Honcho Trail and Street production begins
LiveWire has started production of its new S4 Honcho Trail and Street mini-motos, with prices from £4,599 and a clear focus on attracting new riders to the world of two-wheels.

LiveWire has officially started production of its new S4 Honcho Trail and Street models, marking what could be one of the company's most important launches yet as the electric motorcycle market shifts away from heavyweight premium bikes and towards smaller, more cost-effective and accessible machines.
The two new models, first shown as concepts at Harley-Davidson's Homecoming festival and later at EICMA, are now rolling off the production line ahead of their arrival in dealerships later this summer. Prices start at £4,599 for the Trail and £4,999 for the Street.

While those prices make the Honcho by far the cheapest bike in LiveWire's range, the significance of the launch isn’t just the affordability of the two new models. The S4 platform lands at a time when lightweight electric motorcycles are increasingly being viewed as the most promising route to growing the wider powered two-wheeler market.
We've already seen evidence of that trend in recent months, with LiveWire's investment in Dust Moto highlighting growing industry confidence in smaller electric machines. This wave of lightweight electric dirt bikes has shown a surprising ability to attract younger riders, many of whom might never have considered a traditional petrol-powered motorcycle.

The Honcho appears designed to tap directly into that same audience, as explained by LiveWire’s CEO Karim Donnez:
"Weighing around 250lb [113kg] including batteries, the S4 Honcho is about opening up electric riding to a much broader audience. It's lightweight, approachable, and built to be used – whether you're new to riding or just looking for something more fun and flexible day to day."
Both models are classed as 125cc-equivalent motorcycles, making them accessible to A1 licence holders in the UK and Europe. Top speed is claimed at 59mph, while LiveWire says the bike can accelerate from 0 to 30mph in around three seconds.

Power comes from a pair of removable batteries with a combined capacity of 3.48kWh. LiveWire claims a WMTC range of 53 miles or 73 miles at around 20mph, while charging from 20 to 80 per cent takes around two hours on a domestic outlet. With those kinds of numbers in mind, the Street version will be firmly rooted in the city, while the Trail version would sit comparably alongside the range and recharge times of equivalent off-road-only e-bikes.
The Trail and Street models share the same platform but receive different styling and equipment to suit their intended roles. Both get 12-inch wheels, a reverse gear and removable batteries, while seat heights vary slightly between the two bikes, too, with the Trail gaining a slightly taller perch.

Perhaps most importantly, the Honcho arrives as LiveWire continues searching for a formula that can push electric motorcycling beyond its current niche. Premium electric bikes have struggled to gain widespread traction, which was the basket LiveWire previously put all its eggs into. But smaller, lower-cost machines aimed at commuters, younger riders and recreational users are increasingly looking like the industry's best chance of growing the market.
With production now underway, thanks to LiveWire’s manufacturing partner, KYMCO, and first customer deliveries expected this summer, LiveWire is betting that the future of electric motorcycling might not be bigger and faster. It’s banking on electric bikes, for now, at least, getting smaller, lighter and a lot more fun.
