Jack Miller, current MotoGP racer for the Pramac Yamaha team, was representing the Japanese brand during the Suzuka 8 Hour event last weekend, as he sent his R1 to the moon and back.

The Australian rider was competing at the famous endurance race as part of a three-rider Yamaha Racing Team. Four-time Suzuka winner Katsuyuki Nakasuga and WorldSBK racer Andrea Locatelli were his teammates for the event.

Miller’s insane crash took place during practice as he fell at turn one, which caused his R1 machine to have a mind of its own as soon as it hit the gravel.

Miller was unhurt from the fall as he immediately got back to his feet, but his R1 suffered extensive damage.

The former Ducati and Honda rider ran slightly off line on the approach to the corner, before losing the front-end of his R1. This caused Miller’s bike to skid through the gravel before bouncing over the air fence.

But it wasn’t the fact that the bike barrel-rolled which caught Miller, and us, by surprise. Instead, it was the height his R1 achieved as it quickly disappeared behind the barriers.

In the immediate aftermath Miller told an FIM Endurance World Championship reporter: “Honestly, I’m suffering there a lot to stop the bike. We’re a little bit soft in the front and in full time attack mode you know you ask a little bit more and she said ‘no más’”.

Miller recovered from the practice crash, and together with his teammates, secured a second place finish in Sunday’s race, behind Honda.
