Honda UK to celebrate 30 years of the Fireblade at Donington BSB in May

Honda has announced that it will be holding official celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Honda Fireblade at this year’s Donington BSB in May.

Honda Fireblade 30 year.

HONDA will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1992 Fireblade at this year’s British Superbike race at Donington in May.

The Honda Fireblade debuted as a 900cc CBR, but since the 2000s the 1000cc Fireblade has become the flagship sports model for the famous Japanese brands.

The Fireblade has not only become a favourite of fans and road riders, but has seen much success on the race track, too, winning the Superbike World Championship with James Toseland and the Ten Kate team in 2007, as well as three BSB titles with Ryuichi Kiyonari, and a further one in 2013 with Alex Lowes.

Already, the racing pedigree of the latest Fireblade, the CBR1000RR-R, has been confirmed in the British Championship with multiple race wins since it came into the championship in 2020, including a triple win at the opening round of the 2022 championship at the Silverstone National circuit in the hands of Glenn Irwin.

Donington was also a successful circuit for the Fireblade and Irwin in the first year of the current model back in 2020, with Andrew Irwin taking two of three wins when the National layout opened the season two years ago.

Donington’s BSB race scheduled for 20-22 May will also be on the National layout, so perhaps it will once again prove a fruitful weekend for the Fireblade as its anniversary is officially celebrated by Honda UK.

Over the course of the BSB weekend in Donington, there will be special opportunities specific to Fireblade riders who turn up to the track with their bike.

Among the unique opportunities for Fireblade riders are: the chance to ride the Donington track between 18:00 and 20:00 on Saturday; access to exclusive Fireblade parking at the Melbourne loop; ride a parade lap of Donington with John McGuinness on Saturday and Sunday lunchtime (limited to 200 road legal Fireblades); chat with Honda UK’s factory BSB riders over the course of the weekend; and win exclusive prizes.

There will also be a number of things going across the weekend for all fans attending Donington, including: a heritage Fireblade display; a heritage race bike display including a Castrol Honda VTR1000SP1, as well as replicas of Joey Dunlop’s, Alex Lowes’ and Ryuichi Kiyonari’s Honda race bikes; an opportunity to see all of Honda’s 2022 production roster; a chance to try the Dual Clutch Transmission rolling road; a Steve Colley Trials Experience show; a chance to book yourself in for the Dave Thorpe Adventure and Off-Road Centre; and a chance to purchase the latest 2022 Honda UK merchandise.

So, there will be plenty to check out for all things, not only Fireblade, but Honda in general at this year’s Donington National BSB, as Honda celebrates 30 years of the Fireblade, You can grab your tickets for the race here.
