Harley-Davidson Milwaukee Homecoming festival postponed till 2028

The Motor Company is reshaping its events calendar, shelving Homecoming for three years and instead partnering with Summerfest as it navigates a 26 per cent profit drop.

Harley-Davidson has publicly announced that it is postponing its Homecoming festival in Milwaukee until at least 2028. The news comes amid slumps in profits for the famous brand, with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (MJS) reporting a 26 per cent drop in profit for 2025.

The Homecoming has been Harley’s showstopping global event since 2023, attracting acts like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Green Day, Foo Fighters and The Offspring. Like the firm’s profits, attendance at the event has also been reported to have slid since its 2023 inauguration, with around 80,000 people attending that event, compared to 60,000 in 2024.

According to the MJS, a Harley-Davidson spokesperson confirmed the news on February 24, with them going on to state that the event will switch to being held every five years, with the next event, 2028, set to celebrate its 125th anniversary.

Instead of holding its own festivities, Harley will now play a leading role in the Summerfest event, an annual gathering of food, music and fireworks in its hometown. MJS reports that Harley-Davidson will be an official sponsor of Summerfest’s Official Celebration of America’s 250th on closing day, July 4. That event will include a mammoth twenty-minute firework spectacular. Included with the event sponsorship is a reported deal on admittance for the first 5,000 customers, H-D sponsored bike parking, and Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) perks within the event.

For a brand so closely tied to its hometown, the decision to park its Homecoming for three years must feel like a kick in the teeth for Harley execs and US-based fans. Harley-Davidson is hardly walking away from Milwaukee, though, but it is tightening up on big-ticket spending, at least while the balance sheet steadies. Folding into Summerfest keeps the bar and shield badge visible, just without the financial overhang of running its own standalone spectacle. Come 2028 and the 125th anniversary, expect the Motor Co to want the fireworks, both literal and commercial, to land with a bit more punch.
