CHICHESTER POLICE yesterday posted an appeal for information regarding six motorcycles stolen from the exclusive West Wittering area.
The bikes, all off-roaders, and varying in vintage, were reportedly taken from a garage in Redlands Lane between 6pm on Monday and 7am yesterday.
Now, a quick Google Maps search shows that there are only a handful of permanent residences on the single track road in West Sussex, one of which is that of former Rolling Stone Keith Richards.
The 75-year-old has owned ‘Redlands’, which is situated down the private half of the lane, since the 1960s, using it as his UK base while he toured the world with his band.
The sprawling estate, which Richards bought for £20,000 cash in the height of his fame, features a tennis court, barn, and what appears to be a large, standalone garage…
While there’s nothing tying the singer and guitarist to these exact bikes, the Rolling Stones are known to be motorcycle aficionados, and have been regularly pictured on two wheels throughout the decades.
Only last October, Mick Jagger shared a photo to Facebook showing him astride a BMW F800GS…
And in November, a seemingly spoof article announced that septuagenarian Richards would be recreating four of Evel Knievel’s most famous jumps…
Whatever the case, we seriously hope these motorcycles are found and returned to their rightful owner, whether it be Richards or one of his neighbours.
The stolen bikes comprise: a white KTM 495, a red Maico 490 – both from 1981; a red and silver Maico 400, from 1977; a 2013 Beta Evo trials bike; a 2011 Husaberg 390 and a Gas Gas 300 enduro.
