Zero Motorcycles has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric motorcycle on a single charge, after Jelle Verstaen completed a surprising 271-mile trip.

The motorcyclist covered 271.23 miles on a standard Zero DS, which took him through the French-Italian Alps to the Mediterranean coast.

The achievement by Verstaen surpasses the previous record of 193 miles by exactly 78.17 miles, which equates to an increased distance of around 40 per cent.

The previous record was set in March 2025 by Verge Motorcycles’ TS Pro, with the ride taking place around Greater London.

Although it remained unmodified, the motorcycle used by Verstaen was equipped with the optional Power Tank.

The new record is particularly impressive as it goes far beyond the expected range available. The DS achieves a claimed city range of 155 miles from its 15.6kWh battery.

Meanwhile, the addition of the Power Tank is good for a further 3.6kWh, bringing its total capacity to 19.2 kWh.

Therefore, covering 271 miles goes far beyond what the company’s published range figures suggest is capable.

Zero also says that the new Guinness World Record was not part of any ‘laboratory test’, while it was completed strictly on public roads, including minor roads and the French equivalent of A and B roads. This means the 271-mile trip did not include motorway riding.

Jarno Middelbosch, Senior Director of Global Marketing at Zero Motorcycles, said this about the new record:

“We've spent 20 years pushing the limits of electric motorcycle technology, and our community has ridden millions of kilometres to prove it. This new record is proof that our focus on performance never wavers. Range anxiety remains a hurdle for prospective riders - by proving a real-world range of over 270 miles on a single charge, we're showing what's possible to welcome the next generation of riders to Zero Motorcycles.”
