BMW Off Road Skills has appointed Gareth Edmunds as its new Managing Director, as the adventure training specialist moves to strengthen its leadership structure while maintaining continuity at the top of the business.

Edmunds will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the company, overseeing operations and future development. Founder Simon Pavey will remain firmly embedded within the organisation, continuing in his long-standing role as Chief Instructor. He will stay focused on shaping the training curriculum and guiding the adventure rides programme, while also supporting operational delivery. In practical terms, it’s more of a handover of the management duties rather than a change of direction.

For Off Road Skills, the appointment brings in a figure with a broad and unusually motorsport-heavy background. Edmunds’ career spans senior leadership roles within motorcycle businesses, brand management in the performance suspension sector, and engineering work tied to automotive performance development. Alongside that, he has worked directly within factory racing environments across motocross, enduro and rally disciplines. His CV blends boardroom experience with hands-on technical understanding, a combination that should translate well to a business built around rider training and off-road adventure experiences.

The company says the move is designed to support its next phase of growth while preserving the standards it has built its reputation on. With Edmunds steering operations and Pavey remaining active in his instructional and ambassadorial capacity, the structure is intended to deliver both stability and fresh momentum.

Speaking about his appointment, Edmunds said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be stepping into the role of Managing Director and to have the opportunity to take on the leadership of Off Road Skills. Witnessing its incredible journey from its early days, when I worked for Si as his mechanic on two of his Dakar finishes, to the strong and thriving business it is today, I have a deep appreciation for the vision, dedication, and hard work that has shaped its growth. I am committed to continuing Off Road Skills’ amazing journey while also exploring exciting innovation and expansion opportunities. I look forward to working closely with the talented Off Road Skills team, meeting the many loyal customers, and working with our valued partners as we continue the Off Road Skills journey together.”
