Lorenzo and Marquez battle it out in Silverstone sizzler

SILVERSTONE played host to a scintillating MotoGP race this weekend, and a massive crowd packed into the grandstands to watch the action unfold. Race day was full of drama right from the start, with two of the biggest attractions – rising star Marc Marquez and Britain's Cal Crutchlow both having big crashes at the same point on the circuit. Crutchlow walked away unhurt, but the 20-year-old Marquez, who grabbed a sensational pole on Saturday smashing the lap record, dislocated his collarbone in the crash.

Despite the injury, Marquez took his position at the front of the grid and defied all speculation to run right at the front throughout the race. It was Jorge Lorenzo that got the hole shot aboard his Factory Yamaha, however, and the reigning champion was determined to halt the sensational charge of the Repsol Honda rookie.

Marquez looked to have the pace to match Lorenzo for the entire race, and despite an uncharacteristic slow getaway for Marquez' team-mate Dani Pedrosa, he had joined the battle for the front by the middle part of the race. He had, however, used up the best of his Bridestone rear tyre in the process, and couldn't mount a charge to take either of the leading pair.

Marquez looked to have done it again on the penultimate lap taking the lead into Brooklands on the brakes, but Lorenzo took the position back going into Vale on the next tour. Marquez tried the move again on the final lap, but left just enough of a gap going through Luffield for Lorenzo to jam his bike up the inside and take a sensational victory.

Behind the leading trio there was another good tussle between Gresini Honda's Alvaro Bautista and Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi, who is still struggling with pace early in the race. Rossi eventually came out on top to finish fourth.

Cal Crutchlow had a tough home race and could only manage seventh place behind the Honda of Stefan Bradl. Crutchlow's team-mate Bradley Smith had a race long battle with the factory Ducati riders Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden.
