Clarke X-PRO CAT154 1inch Air Impact Wrench review

If you find yourself repeatedly changing wheels, particularly on commercial vehicles, a small battery or mains cable powered impact wrench may not be enough in terms of power or durability. Instead, what you need is a heavy duty, compressed air-powered impact wrench, ideally with a one-inch drive.

Thankfully, Machine Mart offers exactly that for both the home and professional mechanic in the form of the Clarke X-PRO CAT154 1inch Air Impact Wrench which costs £239.98 and is available via the retailer’s nationwide chain of stores or online.

It’s a professional standard, heavy duty, impact wrench which is ideal for working on large commercial vehicles or similar. It has a one-inch square drive and when hooked up to a compatible compressor (with a minimum required pressure of 7.8Bar) via a recommended 13mm hose with ½ inch BSP connector, delivers peak torque of 3800Nm (+/- 10%) and a maximum speed of 3800rpm (again +/- 10%), which is more than enough for virtually any application.

The impact mechanism is of the ‘Rocking dog’ type, there are three forward and three reverse speeds, it takes bolts up to 38mm, it weighs a heavy duty 17.2kg there’s an extra side handle for easier operation and its anvil is a long 720mm to give better access on hard-to-reach jobs.

But don’t just take our word for it, the Clarke X-PRO CAT154 has also received glowing ratings from buyers on Machine Mart’s own website, such as this, from Will, who said:

“Item looks reasonably well built, use it to undo wheel nuts on my 7.5ton truck which are tightened to 4000nm so it does what I need it to do, time will tell how it wears. The item is value for money comparing it to other brands and if something fails during warranty Machine Mart are good at replacing it.”
