WSB faster than MotoGP at Jerez

MotoGP might be the premier class but WSBK runs premier lap times

WORLD Superbikes lapped faster than MotoGP bikes at a shared test at Jerez, yesterday.

Aprilia World Superbike rider Eugene Laverty led the test with a fastest lap of 1m41.185 seconds, second fastest was Ducati MotoGP rider Nicky Hayden who set a fastest lap of 1m40.855. While Laverty's fastest lap was set on a Pirelli qualifying tyre, he also recorded a 1m40.4 on a race tyre.

Hayden is said to have been testing a new swingarm on his 2013 Desmosedici. The track was shared by WSBK and MotoGP teams including CRT riders. New Ducati man Andrea Dovizioso only managed two laps due to an old injury giving him problems. Sylvain Guintoli, new to the Factory Aprilia squad was also at the test and managed a best lap of 1m41.239 putting him fourth fastest on the day.

Hayden goes well at Jerez. He qualified third at Jerez in 2012, with a time of 1m40.563. Cal Crutchlow was just one place behind him with a 1m40.570. Laverty's testing time would have pushed both of them back a position.

The MotoGP race lap record at Jerez is 1m39.731 but Jorge Lorenzo qualified pole there this year with a 1m39.532.
