DUCATI and Carlos Checa maintained the top positions of the championship standings despite the Spaniard taking his worst finishes of the season at Monza.

Marco Melandri moved up a spot to second after two podiums places at the Italian track as Max Biaggi suffered a penalty in the second race for cutting a corner whilst in the lead, putting the Aprilia rider behind Melandri in the standings. With his first WSB double Eugene Laverty jumped up the championship table from ninth to now round out the top five.
