Fabio Quartararo maintained his place at the top of the timesheets as race day for the Catalunya MotoGP got underway, ahead of Marc Marquez and Aleix Espargaro.
Starting from pole position for the second time this season, the rookie Petronas SRT Yamaha rider swept to the top of the leaderboard with his final lap to emphasise his superior single lap pace this weekend.
His final effort was enough to demote Marquez down to second to mirror their qualifying positions, while Aleix Espargaro was a fine third quickest in the Aprilia despite losing part of the session when he fell.
Maverick Vinales was fourth best from Alex Rins and Takaaki Nakagami, followed by Italian pair Valentino Rossi and Danilo Petrucci, while Andrea Dovizioso recovered to ninth position after losing time initially with a technical issue on his Ducati.
