Joan Mir has been diagnosed with a pulmonary contusion following an accident during the mid-season one day test at Brno, the Spaniard set for more assessments to rule out other injuries.

After seeing his hopes of a good result in the Czech Republic MotoGP ruined by a tangle that eliminated him just three corners into the race, Mir had spent much of the day trialling Suzuki's latest fairing for the first time.

However, a fast crash at the first turn brought his day to a premature end, so much so his Suzuki GSX-RR vaulted the air-fence. Airlifted to hospital as a precaution, he remained overnight with doctors and is set to undergo more tests, including a CT scan, on Tuesday.

“Joan crashed at the end of the test, which unfortunately means that the day wasn’t all positive,” lamented Suzuki Ecstar team manager Davide Brivio.

“Up until then we were going well and checking lots of different items. Joan tested the new aero package and we received positive feedback from him, so I think we’ll be using it again in the coming races.”

With the Austrian MotoGP kicking off in just three days, Mir’s participation appears in doubt. Should he not be able to line up, Sylvain Guintoli - who raced in Brno – is likeluy to stand-in again.
