With shows like EICMA and MCL26 right around the corner, there’s a chance we could get to know the new Harley-Davidson ‘Sprint’ motorcycle on a much deeper level.

So far, the American company has revealed teasers of the new model on social media, although information about the bike, and its hardware, have remained very limited.

That being said, we can pull specs from Harley’s X440 platform to understand a little more about the upcoming model, which is expected to arrive as Harley’s most affordable motorcycle in the UK, and other markets worldwide.

Harley’s X440, which is currently vacant from various big markets globally, is currently sold across parts of Asia.

The X440 is manufactured by Hero at its plant in Rajasthan, India, and is closely related to Hero’s own Hunk 440.

It still remains to be seen how closely related the new ‘Sprint’ will be to both the Hunk 440 and X440, both of which make use of an air-cooled single-cylinder engine.

We would expect the new Sprint model to feature the same power unit, meaning bhp and torque figures will likely be comparable, if not the same.

For a long time, Harley’s ability to get new riders on seats has proved somewhat tricky. Some of that is related to the cost of its motorcycles, while in other cases, the lack of entry-level bikes has also been a factor.

However, those two points are where the Sprint could not only help the American brand sell more motorcycles, but also help grow its appeal in a segment that is very popular at the moment.

If we take the modern classic segment in the UK, for example, the bikes generally performing the best over the last two years operate within the 350cc to 400cc category.

Small-to-mid displacement motorcycles have become some of the most popular in various markets in recent times, and by entering that space, Harley’s outlook could look better than it has in many years.

Harley has not given any indication as to when the bike will be revealed, but with EICMA set to get underway on November 3, we could find out more then.
