Yamaha has announced an updated version of its XSR125: the XSR125 Legacy, which offers a pretty new paint job and a modern classic look.

Yamaha has today (19 April 2022) announced the XSR125 Legacy, an update on the previous XSR125.

The XSR125 was launched in the UK last year, and now Yamaha is updating the model with this XSR125 Legacy version, which leans into the ‘modern classic’ genre.

As the name suggests, the bike will feature a 125cc engine; a liquid-cooled single-cylinder which will produce 14.8 horsepower at 10,000 rpm, and 11.5Nm at 8,000 rpm. It is the same motor which powers the MT-125 and the R-125.

The XSR125 will feature the Deltabox-style beam frame that is also seen on the MT models, including the MT-15 V2 which was recently launched in India. But, the frame design is not all that the XSR125 Legacy shares with the MT-15, as both also make use of 37mm upside down forks. The Legacy will also feature a two-piece aluminium muffler cover, and the tyres are provided by Metzeler, who supply the XSR125 Legacy with their Karoo tyres.

Yamaha says the new Legacy edition “adds style with its wire wheels, gold rims and distinctive paintwork and is sure to attract those looking to stand out from the crowd, but who still look for the reliability and build quality that comes with every new Yamaha.”

Certainly, the paint job of the XSR125 Legacy is a stunner, and gold wheels only add to that. It definitely hits all of the right visual markers for a proper modern take on a retro design. It is also true that the XSR125 Legacy is only available in the black and gold scheme that Yamaha is calling “Historic Black,” but from our perspective that is not necessarily a bad thing. Choice is always a benefit, but if Yamaha are going to limit us to one paint scheme, at least they have made it a bit of a pearler.

The XSR125 Legacy is also customisable with Yamaha’s Genuine Accessories, including an Akrapovic exhaust, a tank pad, screens and a host of other add-ons.

Yamaha have confirmed that the XSR125 Legacy will be available in UK dealers from this coming June, with the bike retailing at £4,950.
