British kit maker Merlin has added to its winter riding line-up with the launch of the ThermaVolt heated mid-layer collection and the CE Level 2 certified Bednell heated glove.

The ThermaVolt range is designed to be worn under riding gear or as standalone outdoor clothing. It connects to a motorcycle’s 12V system or can run independently on Merlin’s 6,000mAh rechargeable battery packs. The garments use lightweight materials, micro carbon fibre heating panels and Merlin’s Heat Reflection System to deliver targeted warmth.

The range consists of a jacket, trousers and socks. Each piece can be run on its own or linked together to form a full-body heated system.

The mid-layer jacket is made from breathable polyester with a tailored fit. Heating panels are positioned at the chest, arms and back, and the garment is powered either by the bike’s 12V supply or a 7.4V battery pack. There are three heat settings, with battery runtimes between 1.6 and 3.75 hours depending on use. Features include Lycra cuffs, a drawcord hem and four zipped pockets. The jacket has an RRP of £229.99.

ThermaVolt trousers

The trousers match the jacket with heating panels across the seat, thighs, shins and calves. They share the same dual-power setup and run times. They feature elasticated cuffs, a snap-stud hem and a battery storage pocket. RRP is £189.99.

ThermaVolt socks

The socks use heating panels around the toes and instep and can be run from their own battery or via a 12V bike connection. They are made from a wool mix and have an elasticated panel at the calf. Battery run times are longer than the jacket and trousers, ranging from four to nine hours. RRP is £99.99.

Alongside the mid-layer range, Merlin has introduced the Bednell glove which carries CE Level 2 certification. The glove uses a leather upper with a Hipora waterproof membrane, Thinsulate insulation and a microfleece lining. Heat is controlled via a three-setting cuff-mounted switch, powered by two rechargeable batteries. D3O knuckle protection is included. The Bednell has an RRP of £249.99 and is available in black or brown.

The new ThermaVolt mid-layer collection and the Bednell glove are available now through Merlin retailers.
