Scooter company pulls cover off electric cruiser

Nothing’s more bad ass than an electric cruiser with a top speed of 50 mph.

Indian electric scooter maker Komaki has unveiled an electric cruiser that the company says is capable of delivering a range of 137 miles on a single charge.

The MX16 is unlikely to ever arrive in the UK, but it’s an interesting idea and its price is hard to ignore: ₹169,999, or about £1,450 at current exchange rates.

Driven by a 5kW hub motor, the bike claims a top speed in the range of 50 mph and a single-charge range of somewhere between 100 and 137 miles – presumably depending on use.

“The Komaki MX16 is not just an electric cruiser bike, it's a road statement,” claims Komaki. “With its stretched frame, premium detailing, and comfort-focused design, this motorcycle captures attention while making every mile more enjoyable.”

Looking toy-like in its unrestrained use of plastic, the MX16 Pro has a (surely unnecessary) dual front disc, single rear disc braking set-up. As one would probably expect from an electric vehicle, it offers a number of rider aids and tech goodies, including a TFT display, smartphone connectivity, cruise control (Really?!) regenerative braking, reverse assist, and so-called “parking assist.” We’re not sure what that last feature would actually entail.

“From long weekend rides to daily spins, the MX16 is tuned for smooth torque and stable handling,” states Komaki.

Founded in 2020, Komaki is pretty new to the game but has managed to carve out a reasonable space for itself in India’s fledgling electric scooter and motorcycle market. It claims that it “serves over 200,000 satisfied customers.” If you break the numbers down that isn’t terribly impressive within the Indian context, but it’s not too bad.

“The company's growth has been entirely organic, operating without dependence on government subsidies, bank loans, or funding from financial institutions,” boasts Komaki.
