IT STILL seems a bit mad that Triumph is going to be supplying the engines to the Moto2 championship next year - a load of Black Country accented engineers replacing the HRC bods from Saitama. But they are, and the 765cc Street Triple motor will be screaming its way round the MotoGP calendar in 2019. Woo!
And here's a chance for you to get a look and listen to the beastie. Triumph's running one of its Moto2 test bikes up the hill at Goodwood, with multiple world champion Carl Fogarty and dual TT winner Gary Johnson cocking a leg over it. From what we understand, it's pretty much a stock Daytona 675 with the 765 engine bolted in, but it will sound corking, and give a real taste of what's coming next year.
Foggy and Gaz will also be riding some crazy old school Triumphs from the days of yore before Hinckley, including a Triumph Works 750 from a batch of three experimental models built in 1970 and winner of the 24-hour Bol D’Or endurance race in France that same year. That will feature alongside the ex-Mike Hailwood/Ray Pickrell 1971 works 750, which picked up three wins from six races in the Anglo-American Cup. It also competed at Daytona in the hands of Hailwood, and finished second in both the F750 Isle of Man TT race and UK Superbike series.
All three race bikes will run alongside the firm's current Speed Triple RS.
