Motorbike thieves spray poisonous liquid at showroom staff

BALACLAVA-WEARING thieves attacked staff with ammonia at a West Yorkshire motorcycle dealership before making off with a bike.

The incident took place in Wakefield shortly before 5pm last Friday. The brazen suspects entered Wakefield Off-Road Motorcycles, spraying the poisonous liquid at staff, and stealing the motorcycle.

Staff gave chase, smashing the windows of the thieves’ black Vauxhall Vectra, before a Police helicopter took over the pursuit.

The two vehicles travelled along Chantry Bridge and on to Doncaster Road, before the police swooped in, arrested two suspects and recovered the bike.

Detectives are now appealing for information or witnesses to the incident at Church Street to come forward.

Detective Inspector Dave Watts, of Wakefield District CID, told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner: “The liquid used was found to be ammonia based but the victim and witnesses thankfully received no significant injuries.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries into the incident and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of it or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”
