100th Senior TT gets 2027 Isle of Man TT schedule change
The Isle of Man TT has confirmed major schedule changes to the 2027 event, including the placement of the 100th Senior TT.
Major changes to the 2027 Isle of Man TT schedule have been confirmed, as the six-lap Senior TT will not close out the event, as it traditionally has.
Next year’s event is set to celebrate the 100th Senior TT, and organisers will be desperate to avoid the issues encountered over the last two years, in particular.
Poor weather has impacted the TT for several years, which eventually led to the Senior TT being cancelled in 2025. This year, the Senior race went ahead but was stopped after just one lap due to red flags. The race was never restarted and was instead declared a result.
The 2027 Senior TT will now take place on what is scheduled to be the penultimate race day of the event, with the sidecar and sportbike classes bringing the action to a close.
After being suspended from the 2026 TT following a series of major accidents, Sidecars will return to the 2027 TT under new rules, designed to make the category safer, more sustainable and more competitive.
Supertwin bikes will be absent from the TT for the first time since 2012, with the class fully transitioning to sportbike machines.
The 2027 race schedule will begin on Saturday, June 5, with the six-lap RST Superbike TT. Race one of the supersport class will follow on Sunday, June 6.
Race one from the superstock and sidecar categories will go ahead on Tuesday, June 8, before the second supersport race is then followed by race one of the sportbike class on Wednesday, June 9.
The 100th Senior TT will then take place on Friday, June 11, before the event comes to a close on Saturday, June 12.
A statement from Paul Phillips, Head of Motorsport for the Isle of Man TT Races, said:
“The schedule introduced in 2023 achieved a number of important objectives for the TT. It created stronger opening and closing weekends, provided more racing across the week and gave visitors much greater choice around how and when they came to the Island.
“Across the four TT events in which it has operated, the schedule has helped us attract more fans and deliver greater economic benefit to the Island. Those gains remain central to the 2027 programme, but four years of experience have also provided valuable evidence about where the schedule can now be refined.
“For 2027, we believe the right balance is nine substantial and clearly defined races. Moving from two Superstock races to one allows us to give the remaining Superstock race and both Sportbike races greater substance, create more recovery time within the programme and provide better protection around the Superbike and Senior TTs.
“This is an evolution rather than a return to the programme that existed before 2023. It retains the stronger two-weekend structure while giving each race day a clear purpose. Superbike provides an immediate headline race on the opening Saturday, while placing the 100th Senior on Friday allows us to build the day around that historic occasion and retain Saturday as a genuine contingency opportunity.
“We also want the 100th Senior to be about much more than the race itself. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate the riders, motorcycles and extraordinary performances that have made it the most important race at the TT.”
