Triumph has expanded its motocross line-up with the new TF 450-X, which will now sit alongside the TF 250-X and top-spec TF 450-RC.

Triumph understandably wanted to create a bit of a buzz about entering the MX game, so launching a bike branded with the legendary Ricky Carmichael’s graphics, the man who helped shape the project, was a smart move. Now that the buzz has dropped a little, it makes sense for the Hinckley brand to launch this, a slightly more cost-effective and less blingy version of the 450.

What remains is the basic chassis, engine, and electronics package, meaning you still get the 450cc single-cylinder engine that produces 61.5bhp at 9,500rpm. The bike tips the scales at 108.3kg, making it slightly lighter than the 108.6 kg RC edition. Triumph claims that the dry weight, combined with the power output, give the new bike a best in class power to weight ratio. A maximum torque figure of 36.8lb ft at 7,000rpm is quoted.

The motor carries over key components from the RC edition, including a forged König piston, Del West titanium valves, and DLC-coated cams and rockers. Mass-saving magnesium engine covers are fitted, while fueling comes via a Dell’Orto 44mm throttle body and Keihin injector.

For 2026, the Exedy clutch hub has been updated with improved lubrication ports, increasing durability and torque capacity. A new Belleville Clutch Spring is designed to provide more consistent engagement, while a revised gearbox selector star also features, aimed at improving gear changes. A quickshifter (2nd to 5th gears) comes as standard, while Brembo hydraulics manage the clutch operation.

Chassis and suspension

The TF 450-X uses Triumph’s aluminium spine and double cradle frame, with a hydroformed swingarm and race-developed linkage. Suspension is supplied by KYB, with 48mm AOS coil-spring forks and a fully adjustable piggyback shock.

Wheel sizes are standard motocross fare: 21-inch front and 19-inch rear, with D.I.D DirtStar aluminium rims fitted with Pirelli MX32 mid-soft terrain tyres. Braking is handled by Brembo calipers and Galfer discs - a 260mm rotor at the front and 220mm at the rear.

Electronics and equipment

Electronics include launch control, traction control, dual engine maps, and quickshifter, with further options available through the MX Tune Pro app when paired with Triumph’s accessory Engine Management Unit. Riders can unlock up to ten additional maps, alongside live diagnostics and data logging.

Standard equipment also includes ProTaper ACF carbon core handlebars, ODI lock-on grips, Neken yokes, and a D.I.D 520 SDH chain.

Accessories and support
