TROY CORSER announced his retirement from racing putting an end to a distinguished career that saw two World Superbike championship victories.

The veteran's retirement closes a career that has spanned 17-years of racing and at 39, ends with an illustrious list of achievements that includes two World Superbike titles in 1996 and 2005, 33 race wins, 130 podiums, 43 pole positions and more than 4,000 points achieved in 377 races in the top flight.

In his last race Corser rode with a special livery on his BMW S1000RR, with a crocodile-inspired paintscheme. Qualifying in 18th, Corser finished in the races in 14th and 16th.

Before the final race of his career, the Australian tweeted: “Retirement is not a word I would normally use. Finishing my bike racing career and starting a new career at 40 sounds better. Racer forever.” Reflecting on his new position working as a development rider and spokesman for BMW.

During his long-term career the 39-year-old rode an impressive list of bikes starting with Ducati, Aprilia, Petronas, Yamaha - including a short-stint on a YZR500 - and finally BMW. Known as one of the most resourceful riders, he had a reputable ability as a skilled development rider.
