Gavin Lupton passes away following Ulster GP crash

GAVIN LUPTON, the motorcycle racer seriously injured at the Ulster Grand Prix earlier this month has succumbed to his injuries.

The 37-year-old, from Otley, West Yorkshire, crashed on the fast ‘Lougher’s’ section of the 7.4-mile circuit during the Dundrod 150 Challenge race on Thursday, August 10.

He sustained critical injuries and the race was red flagged while he was treated at the scene.

His treatment continued at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he remained until his death, which was announced today.

A statement published on the Ulster Grand Prix website and Facebook page reads: “It is with much sadness that the Dundrod & District Motorcycle Club has learned that English rider Gavin Lupton has succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the Dundrod 150 Challenge race on Thursday 10th August.

“Gavin, also known as ‘Luppy’, was an experienced and popular rider who had been competing at the Ulster Grand Prix since 2015.

“The Dundrod & District Motorcycle Club would like to offer its heartfelt condolences to Gavin’s family, friends and team, and requests that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with his passing.”

Lupton is the second racer to die from this year’s Ulster Grand Prix. Wigan rider Jamie Hodson, 35, tragically passed away following a collision with his own brother during the Dundrod 150 National race.
