VIDEO: Maxwell disqualified and fined over post crash tantrum in Australian Moto2 race
Aussie Superbike sensation promises much but delivers little in weekend's Moto2 event
AUSTRALIAN Moto2 wild card Wayne Maxwell described the opportunity of racing in last weekend's Phillip Island Moto2 race as "probably the highlight of my career so far."
Sadly, Maxwell's highlight was indeed just that, as the 27-year-old put himself out of the race following a first-lap tangle with Spaniard Hector Faubel.
To compound matters, 27-year-old Maxwell promptly blew a mental gasket, venting his anger at Faubel, to whom he gave a solid push to the floor as the Spaniard tried to get back on his feet.
Maxwell rejoined in last place – only to be disqualified and fined 5,000 Euros by race officials.
“I offer no excuse for my behaviour,” he said, adding he had been fairly treated by the FIM.
The Australian says he will write a further letter of apology to Faubel.
