Laverty hospitalised with wrist fractures [UPDATED]
A crash in FP1 leaves Eugene Laverty with fractures to both wrists
Eugene Laverty has been hospitalised after suffering fractures to both wrists in a crash during first free practice for the 2019 World Superbike Championship at Imola.
The Irishman came off the Go Eleven Ducati on the exit of Acqua Minerale 20mins into the FP1 session and was seen nursing his wrists ahead of being transported to the medical centre.
He has since been confirmed as suffering fractures to both wrists, with a tweet from Laverty revealing he is en route to hospital for further checks.
“Eugene suffered two fractured wrists after a high-side at Imola. He is being seen by the doctors and his wrists will be put into casts, then he will be transported to Barcelona where he will be seen by Doctor Mir, the hand specialist.
“Other than that he has no other injuries, as for the cause of the accident the guys are going to look at the data to see what has happened.”
The latest setback comes after Laverty suffered a fractured pelvis earlier in the season following a high-speed crash in Thailand.
