Pininfarina wind-tunnel test reveals secrets of the CFMoto V4 SR-RR

We may already have already heard the news that CFMoto has built China’s fastest ever motorcycle – but the details of how it built the bike are still only just coming to light.

The CFMoto V4 SR-RR has gone from the exhibition hall floor, to the record books in a very short time. Revealed at EICMA in November 2025, the bike was crowned as being China’s fastest ever motorcycle, topping 315.82km/h (196.2mph) in June of this year.

While that headline-grabbing top speed turned plenty of heads, CFMoto has now revealed more about the work that went into making it possible, and it wasn't simply a case of adding more horsepower.

The Chinese manufacturer enlisted the help of the Italian design house Pininfarina, a company better known for shaping some of the world's most iconic supercars, to fine-tune the SR-RR's aerodynamics. Using Pininfarina's full-scale wind tunnel, engineers carried out extensive testing on the bike, looking at everything from rider airflow and stability to drag reduction and cooling performance. It also examined the effectiveness of the bike’s headline-grabbing movable winglets.

Unlike computer simulations alone, the wind tunnel allowed CFMoto to test the motorcycle with a rider in place, highlighting exactly how air behaved around the fairing, screen and rider at very high speeds. The ‘rider’ was recreated down to the smallest detail, including creases in its leathers and even knee sliders for authenticity. The process helped engineers identify areas where turbulence could be reduced, and aerodynamic efficiency improved, ultimately helping to contribute to the bike's near-200mph top speed.

Images released by CFMoto show the V4 SR-RR undergoing testing fitted with pressure sensors and aerodynamic flow markers, while technicians monitored airflow around the machine. Although manufacturers rarely reveal exact drag coefficients for motorcycles, the company says the data gathered was used to optimise both straight-line performance and high-speed stability.

It's another sign that CFMoto is taking its flagship sports bike very seriously. Rather than relying solely on a powerful V4 engine to chase headline numbers, the firm has invested in the same kind of aerodynamic development typically associated with Europe's established superbike manufacturers.

The SR-RR remains a concept for now, but with the speed record already in the bag, and development continuing behind the scenes, it looks increasingly likely that CFMoto's first V4 superbike is edging ever closer to production. If it arrives with much of this technology intact, it could represent the biggest statement yet from a Chinese manufacturer looking to challenge the superbike establishment.
