KTM’s owners officially change name as new era begins

A new chapter has begun for Austrian manufacturer KTM, with its parent company undergoing a name change.

KTM is officially entering a new era as parent company Pierer Mobility AG has been renamed Bajaj Mobility AG.

The name change is of no great surprise and had been expected for quite some time, after it was confirmed in November that Bajaj Auto had completed its acquisition of KTM

It officially signals the next phase in KTM’s restructuring process, which has resulted in the brand downsizing its work force by around 500 employees. The restructuring process began at the end of 2024 when KTM entered major financial problems and faced bankruptcy.

According to KTM AG, “reducing fixed costs, streamlining structures, focusing the product and project portfolio, and optimising our international site and leadership network” are some of the reasons why employees have been laid off. KTM AG had a headcount of 3,794 employees, as of December 31, 2025.

KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister said this about the job cuts:

“This reduction in positions is a difficult but necessary decision to lower our costs, slim down structures, and thereby place the company on a stable footing for the long term. We are reducing complexity across all areas—for example in our model range, in IT, and also in the organisation of our departments, particularly by removing one management layer.”

Neumeister also went on to say that all measures have been taken with the idea of focusing on the company’s three core motorcycle brands, which includes KTM, GasGas, and Husqvarna.

KTM has already cut down on various projects such as its bicycle brand Felt, which was sold to a consortium in November, 2025. It also sold off its X-Bow project, which never really garnered the interest envisioned for it.

In the last year, KTM ended its partnership with MV Agusta and its European distribution of CFMoto bikes.
