THE two-wheeled grin factory that is the Indian FTR has just received a raft of updates for 2021 as a more dynamic, refined, and higher-spec version of the iconic street tracker is revealed.

To help sharpen the handling dynamics of the already formidable machine, Indian has shod the 2022 version (which is actually the 2021 – long story, don’t ask) with 17” wheels. The new hoops will likely open the door for owners to slot a wider choice of tyres on the model but could also make the new machine the sharpest stopping, fastest accelerating, and most grin-inducing version of the bike to date. The new hoops will roll out across the entire FTR range and will be paired up with top-spec Metzeler Sportec tyres to boot.

Adding to the refinement is the addition of fully adjustable across the range, something that was previously reserved for the top tiers of FTR ownership. For those looking for ultimate pub bragging rights, the top of the range FTR R Carbon can be selected and comes equipped with the obligatory Öhlins kit front and rear.

Matching the suspension of the new bike is revised geometry, with the new bikes running a steeper rake angle (25°) and a shorter trail of (99.9 mm). the smaller wheels, along with the bike’s front and rear suspension which offer 120mm of travel, now contribute to a lower seat height by 36mm – opening the door for more riders to throw a leg over the FTR. Additionally, the ProTaper handlebars have been trimmed by 40mm to support the bike’s nimble handling and give riders more control. Aside from the chassis updates, the entire FTR range now features cylinder deactivation, handy when sitting in traffic for long periods of time.
