H-D has just released the official model information for the 2023 Harley-Davidson Breakout, updating the factory custom styling and adding more grunt from a new 117ci engine.

Along with the Fat Bob and Fat Boy, the Breakout represents one of the most popular models in the traditional H-D cruiser range. Discontinued in 2020, the much-loved model is making a welcome return to the fleet in 2023, and its received a substantial update including new styling, ergonomic changes, and the inclusion of a new 117ci V-twin engine.

For an overview of all the new 2023 Harley-Davidson models announced so far, you can check out this article covering the new bikes and the 120th Anniversary Editions.

2023 Harley-Davidson Breakout engine

The biggest change to the model is the inclusion of a new powerplant, as the 114ci V-twin of the previous generation bike is superseded by a Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin engine. The new engine represents the largest capacity and most torque laden in the factory-installed, regular-production Harley-Davidson range. The engine is the same 117ci item found in the Low Rider ST we rode last year, and if that bike was anything to go by, the slightly lighter and more aggressive Breakout should be a hoot to ride.

As is the way with H-D, they keep the cards close to their chest when it comes to performance figures, although as the engine is shared with that found in the Low Rider ST, we have a vague idea of what they will be. Assuming the tune of the engine is the same as the ST, expect rear wheel output to be in the region of 100bhp and 120lb-ft of torque.

2023 Harley-Davidson Breakout updates

The styling of the new bike is also heavily changed from the 2020 model, and while the low-slung style of the original bike remains, it’s been freshened up with new wheels, extra chrome detailing, and a new 18.9-litre fuel tank that includes a chrome instrument console mounted on the top. The new larger tank provides 5.7-litres more capacity than the previous model and its 13.2-litre item, significantly improving the range of the updated bike.

The riding position is also altered, with polished stainless steel handlebar risers lifting the chrome bars by 19mm for a more comfortable riding position. The updated 2023 model also features a greater amount of silverware than before, with chrome-finished rear fender supports, side covers, muffler shields, turn signals, mirrors, and intake manifold. The wheels of the 2023 model are also new 26-spoke cast-aluminium items, finished in gloss black with machined details.

The returning Breakout will also gain traction control and cruise control, bringing it in line with the Fat Boy, Fat Bob, Low Rider S and ST, Heritage Classic and Sport Glide models.
